Black Rock Hot Springs – Black Rock Desert, Nevada

November 14, 2020 By //  by Natiaha Murphy

The Black Rock Hot Springs is a set of naturally occurring, primitive pools located in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. While they are the perfect place for a quick soak, you have to make sure to choose the correct pool to avoid being burned.

Hot Springs

The mineral-rich water of the Black Rock Hot Springs can be, at times, scalding. There are four pools present at the site, with the smallest pool being the hottest as it is fed directly from the source. DO NOT swim in this pool as it can give you 1st degree burns.

Make sure to check the pools before jumping in to prevent scolding injury!

The springs are located in a remote, desert area and are free to the public. They are situated around 80 miles away from Gerlach, Nevada, and about one mile from Black Rock Point. The road conditions to the site can be dangerous and are only traversable in dry conditions, so check the weather before traveling.

Note: These springs are clothing optional.

The weather in this area can be extremely hot, especially during the warmer months. It is recommended that you plan your trip when it is cooler, typically during the winter, and make sure to bring all necessary essential items.

Getting to this location requires driving through the backcountry of Nevada, away from cell service and modern conveniences.

If you wish to stay the night, make sure to be about 500ft away from the hot spring. Remember to take home any items you bring with you to preserve the area for future use. It should be noted that this area is not suitable for small children but dogs are allowed, just not in the water.

If you love nature and are looking to have a desert adventure, take a venture out to the Black Rock Hot Springs!
