Once known as Estuarium, Dauphin Island Sea Aquarium in Alabama is home to over 100 different species of marine life for you to observe. It’s one of the top educational facilities in the state when it come to protecting and preserving aquatic life.
Dauphin Island Sea Lab Aquarium Exhibits
There are four habitat exhibits for you to enjoy:
- The Mobile Tensaw River Delta – This exhibit recreates Alabama’s largest wetland and features mammals such as alligators
- Mobile Bay – Learn about the different species local to Mobile bay while viewing wildlife such as crabs, oysters, and flounder.
- Barrier Islands – This exhibit dives into saltwater marine life such as shrimp and blue crab
- Northern Gulf of Mexico – Discover species local to the gulf of Mexico and enjoy the beautiful octopus, eels, and sharks.
In total Dauphin Island Sea Lab has 31 aquariums with a wide variety of mammals and plants in it’s estuary. In fact it’s the fourth largest estuary in the US. While you tour the facility be sure to also check out the 7,000 gallon stingray pool where you can touch them as they go by. There is also an amazing boardwalk made of living marsh.
