Jordan Hot Springs California Pool

Jordan Hot Springs – Sequoia NF, California

October 4, 2020 By //  by William Reavis

Jordan Hot Springs, located in the Golden Trout Wilderness near the Sequoia and Inyo national forests, offers a relaxing, secluded hot spring for those willing to make the nearly six mile hike one way. Though this hot spring pool is certainly off the beaten path, it is well known, so the potential for crowds is possible.

It is most popular on weekends and holidays, so visit during the week to better the chances for a solitary experience. The trailhead is easily accessible for two wheel drive cars. The route begins at Blackrock Trailhead in Golden Trout Wilderness, located at the end of FS-21S03 in Sequoia National Forest. Parts of the trail is also in the Inyo National Forest.

While advanced reservations are not required, a permit is, and it can be easily acquired at Blackrock Ranger Station on the way to the trailhead. The road to Blackrock Trailhead is closed throughout the winter, but it is generally open for the season around Memorial Day.

Camping

The route to Jordan Hot Springs is nearly six miles and features nearly 3000 feet in elevation drop. While this provides an easy hike in, the hike back to the trailhead may be more difficult. For this reason, it is recommended for most people to make their visit to the hot springs an overnight trip.

There are no camping facilities near the hot springs, but campers may set up in any of the previously used sites, many of which feature homemade fire rings. For more privacy, there are also countless decent campsites throughout the meadow used to approach the springs.

Hot Springs

The Jordan Hot springs are rudimentary, composed of homemade rock dams to create an area deep enough for soaking. The water is muddy, but the pools maintain a temperature of around 104 degrees Fahrenheit, offering those who make the trek a relaxing experience.

There are two pools: a larger, deeper pool that can fit around 8 people, and a smaller, shallower pool fit for one. Additionally, there is a nearby creek for rinsing off after a warm dip in the muddy spring water.
