Kirkham Hot Springs Idaho

Kirkham Hot Springs – Lowman, Idaho

October 10, 2020 By //  by Hogan Murphy

Kirkham Hot Springs are a set of primitive pools on the side of the Pinyette River near Lowman, Idaho. It’s a solid overnight side trip when visiting around Boise in Southern Idaho. It’s located nearly two hours northeast of the capital city, a beautiful drive, right off the highway in Luwman, so reaching there is not a problem.

The hot water springs are surrounded mountains, rivers and trees. It is the perfect place to relax while enjoying the feel of nature – and you get it all in one place!

Kirkham Hot Springs comprise a bunch of natural water springs streaming down and collecting in the hot water pool. The temperature is controlled by adjusting the rocks, making the place suitable for both summers and winters. It’s located riverside and features a lovely sandy bottom.

The scenic beauty of Kirkham is what the visitors love the most. The snow-capped mountains and river flowing on the side make an exceptionally beautiful backdrop for pictures.

The cold, freezing water of the Payette River flows down the mountains. In summers, you can enjoy a perfect cold dip in the river followed by a relaxing soak in the hot water rich in minerals.

The hot springs flow from in between the rocks, making the site adventurous and fun. However, do remember to take a pair of water shoes as the rocks can be sharp and slippery. The steep rocks on which the water flows downwards can also be used as a slide

Camping

The campground cabins are in the surrounding areas, so don’t expect to get private rooms with private pools. But the good news is that campgrounds and basic facilities are located only 10-15 minutes away so you can enjoy a family day-out or a weekend getaway in comfort. Since the campgrounds are away, they are more private and are suitable for family parties and BBQ.

Cliff Jumping

Cliff jumping is another favorite activity. You can take a hike up the rocks. There is also a staircase with a wooden deck. Cliff jumping is fun but dangerous and injuries do happen. Make sure you check the depth, clear landing and land feet first.

Rafting

The river receives a regular amount of raft traffic in the summer. It’s easy to reach by boat and enjoy the riverside attraction. Guided rafting trips are available, just search rafting Lowman, ID or Payette River.

Getting There

It’s located on Highway ID-21 just east of Lowman. It’s a mappable address that’s easy to reach 79 miles northeast of Boise, approximately 1H 45 minutes drive.

Kirkham tends to be low-trafficked and less crowded than other hot springs in Idaho. It can be a good getaway for couples who are looking to enjoy nature, get a good soak, and some privacy. They can also enjoy the fresh river water flowing directly down the mountains and then soothe their body in the mineral-rich spring water.

There are many hotels, cabins, and accommodations available in nearby spots. The best part is that it is easily accessible so you can go for a day’s trip as well. Camps are available for rentals and the site has parking spaces as well.

So make the most of your time when you are in Lowman, Idaho, and give this must-see place a visit!
