McCauley Warm Springs – Jemez Springs, New Mexico

November 7, 2020 By //  by Robin Boch

With warm, crystal-clear water, the McCauley Warm Springs, near Jemez Springs, is sure to help you relax while taking in New Mexico’s stunning scenic views. One of the most frequently visited primitive hot springs in the country, McCauley Warm Springs is worth the 3.4-mile roundtrip hike.

Natural Hot Spring Pools

The McCauley Warm Springs consists of two primitive pools, both hovering around 90-95°F, depending on the season. The free, *warm springs are open for day-use only and are large enough to fit around 20 people. If you prefer to soak in privacy,  you may want to plan your visit during a weekday, being that this hot spring is popular.

*Due to this water temperature being lower than the average human body, these pools are considered warm springs.

For those hiking with pets, know that dogs are allowed at the hot spring but must remain leashed at all times.

Additionally, there are no amenities, and camping is prohibited. While this site is classified as clothing required, McCauley Warm Springs is often visited by naturists. Forest Services aren’t known to strictly enforce this rule, so if you choose to soak nude, know it comes with a slight risk.

Note: Some visitors have reported feeling nibbles on their toes from minnows while soaking. If this sensation bothers you, it is recommended that you wear water shoes.
