One of the more popular beach destinations on Amelia Island, Peters Point Beachfront Park is a great beachside location. It offers guests access to a fantastic stretch of white sandy shores and enough amenities to keep you happy for the day or afternoon.
When you arrive at the park, you will be greeted with a rather large public parking lot. Expect to find easy parking, although it can get busy during the busy season.
The beach itself is large and expansive, thanks to the intact dune system that keeps the shoreline extensive. It also acts as a barrier to civilization. This makes for a more secluded feeling when enjoying Peters Point.
If you are looking for a few different ways to walk the beach, you can find a few here. Vehicles are allowed on the sand but keep in mind there are some restrictions in place. The hard-pack is excellent for bikes as well, and if you want a more magical experience, horseback rides are available through outfitters on the island.
Activities
Swimming, surfing, sunbathing, running, volleyball, beach games, and more are popular at this island destination.
Camping is also a popular activity here. Not only is it free, but you can set up right on the beach. Waking up to the sun rising over the mighty Atlantic is an experience you will not soon forget.
Amenities
Peters Point has clean restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic pavilions, and, as mentioned before, lots of parking.
Fishing is also allowed at the park, but keep in mind that it does get busier during the day, so casting a line might not be recommended.
Nearby Attractions
There are several golf clubs in the area. Amelia River Golf Club is a public 18-hole course that is only a short drive from the park.
For some family fun, make sure you check out the Fernandina Beach Pinball Museum. This interactive museum offers guests access to several dozen antique and unique pinball machines.
Fun Facts
Because the beach is fairly secluded, and there isn’t much development in the area, stargazing is incredible at Peters Point. This is especially the case if you decide to camp beachside and get to experience the darkest parts of the night. You will be greeted with a symphony of starlight.
