Spence Hot Springs – New Mexico

Not too far from Jemez Springs, Spence Hot Springs is a popular destination for those looking for a relaxing soak while taking in epic views of New Mexico’s wilderness. This primitive and underdeveloped area offers two different pools that unfortunately have been cooling down over the years and now considered a warm springs area.

During the summer months, Spence hot springs can get pretty crowded as it’s a local favorite. Clothing is required and it’s recommended you try and leave the way you came as sometimes you may see trash left from prior groups. The warm natural waters still provide the healing benefits which so many people are attracted too, but try to avoid submerging as the temperatures don’t get hot enough to kill all bacteria.

Directions to Spence Hot Springs

From Santa Fe, New Mexico

1. Start on US-84 West towards East Jemez road (29 miles)
2. Make a right onto East Jemez Road and travel 6 miles to NM-4 West (6 miles)
3. Continue on NM-4 West until you reach the parking area

It’s a very short hike to Spence hot springs. Unfortunately there is no camping in the area so the warm pools are only for day use. However, this helps keep the underdeveloped area intact and the beauty of the landscape. Happy Soaking!
