Spencer Hot Springs – Austin, Nevada

Spencer Hot Springs, located in the middle of the Nevada desert near the Toiyabe National Forest, is comprised of a metal tub filled with geothermal water and a few naturally occurring pools. Situated in the wilderness and on public land, it is almost always flocked by visitors due to its mesmerizing views and unmatchable experience.

Hot Springs

The geothermal pool at Spencer Hot Springs is naturally heated with high-temperature waters. There is a metal tub where the hot springs water ranges from 100-102°F, allowing visitors to enjoy their soaking experience.

The pools are comprised of mud bottoms, making them ideal for hot springs enthusiasts looking for a therapeutic experience in the wilderness. Spencer Hot Springs can be a great choice at any time of the year, and the best part is that they are not overly crowded, so you can enjoy some private time as well!

The site offers experiences of wildlife, natural mountains, and lush green forests. You can go for a hike, camp under the stars, and have a good BBQ grill alongside the hot springs.

Visitors can bring their dogs along and are permitted to create fires as long as they bring their own wood and keep it contained. The campsites are located about 40 minutes away, so be prepared to make the hike.

Things to Know Before Going

Spencer Hot Springs is about 19 miles away from the city of Austin. The road leading to the springs is dirt so you’ll need a vehicle with four-wheel-drive. However, you will have to park your car at the parking space about 8 miles away and then walk to the springs. You have to be extremely careful about the road conditions, hot weather, and the mules that come out at night.

Getting There

From Austin, Nevada

  1. Take Bateman/Reese St to US-50 E
  2. Turn left onto US-50 E.
  3. Turn right onto NV-376 S.
  4. Turn left at the 1st cross street onto NF-001.
  5. After 5.5 miles, turn left.
  6. Make a slight right and continue for 1 mile.
  7. Your destination will be on the left.
