Tassajara Hot Springs – California
For those who want to ramp up their hot springs adventures, Tassajara in California is your answer. Located in Los Padres Forest, this Zen monastery and retreat sanctuary offers not just amazing hot springs to relax in, but an entire spiritual getaway. The bathhouses use traditional Japanese “onsen” soaking techniques to leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle the world.

Tassjara Hot Springs divides it’s bathhouses into private sections depending on sex. Each area uses onsen Japanese traditions, which is unique to this retreat as it’s the first Zen monastery in the United States. There are also two hot pools, a sauna, private springs tubs, and a creek if you want to cool off. When you aren’t relaxing in the natural mineral waters of California, there are many spiritual activities you can choose from including meditation, workshops, hiking, and dining.
Being a Japanese Zen Retreat, don’t expect any cell phone service either. It’s just you and mother nature to restart your body and soul.
