Visitors travel from all over the world to experience the state’s natural beauty and serenity. Though they may not be as popular as the famous arches and ski slopes that dominate the landscape, the state also contains a few picturesque and relaxing hot springs that are sure to elevate any trip to Utah.

Unlike some other states in the Western U.S.A., there are not a huge number of hot springs in Utah. However, the few hot springs that dot Utah’s vast landscape provide an incredible opportunity to enhance a visit to the Beehive State. Soaking in one of Utah’s hot springs after a long day on the slopes or an exhausting day of hiking is the perfect way to recuperate while still enjoying the natural beauty that Utah has to offer.

Just like most other states, Utah’s hot springs are divided into two types distinct types: primitive hot springs and hot spring resorts. Though both types have major differences, either variety of hot spring is sure to make for a unforgettable experience soaking in geothermally heated mineral water.

Primitive Hot Springs

Primitive hot springs make up the majority of the hot springs located in Utah. Primitive hot springs are characterized by simplicity. Instead of luxurious accommodations and facilities, primitive hot springs generally focus on a deep connection to nature facilitated by undeveloped sites and beautiful locations.

Though there may not be fancy amenities, a visit to one of these springs is sure to be memorable due to the perfect combination of Utah’s natural beauty and the healing power of mineral water.

To best take advantage of these springs, prospective soakers should consider camping nearby. While there may be more comfortable accommodations, camping at one of Utah’s primitive hot springs enhances the experiences by furthering the connection to nature and also allowing for soaks that extend into the night.

However, visitors should keep in mind that many primitive hot springs are isolated and lack basic amenities including restrooms. Campers and all visitors must be prepared to take care of themselves and pack out all that they bring in.

Hot Spring Resorts

On the other hand, hot spring resorts generally provide a much more polished, luxurious experience for the visitor who prefers developed sites and accommodations. Though there may not be as many luxurious hot spring resorts as other states like California, Utah’s hot spring resorts remain the right choice for those who are less comfortable with the simple, basic experience provided by one of the state’s primitive hot springs.
